13 days to ask for thanks to Saint Anthony
During the first 13 days of June, we always put all our faith in a three-day Saint Anthony. The goal is, of course, for all the blessings to befall us!
There are thirteen days in a row, or if you prefer 13 Mondays, or Tuesdays, or Wednesdays, in which you can say prayers in praise of this saint.
And why thirteen prayers? The story goes that a lady, in need of help, prayed for nine days in a row to Saint Anthony and, through her devotion, achieved what she wanted. Later, the number of days increased to thirteen, due to the saint’s commemoration date.
Our thirteen graces are:
1st day: we are always grateful for the gift of life. “Glorious Saint Anthony, who raised the dead with divine power, make me always live the precious life of communion with God and with my brothers and sisters. May everyone have life to the full.”
2nd day: we ask for abundance of blessings. “My dear Saint Anthony, help me with your silver cord, which you carry around your waist, and with your blessed strength, so that I can obtain an increase in blessings, without anyone being harmed”.
3rd day: we pray that our path will be illuminated. “Virtuous Saint Anthony, keep all evil away from me and guide me on the path of faith, hope and love. May many find in me an example of faith and dedication.”
4th day: we ask graces for those who are close and dear to us. “Amible Saint Anthony, friend of the oppressed and courageous preacher of justice, make me not deviate from the practice of love for my neighbour, especially for the poorest and weakest in spirit.”
5th day: we thank, in a simple way, the present day. We pray what we feel at the moment and end with the prayers of a Hail Mary and an Our Father.
6th day: we pray for what is to be born of us and also to die. We pray giving space for the unprecedented, for a new life, a new hope. “Prodigious Saint Anthony, lead me in this troubled sea of life and take me to the harbor of eternal salvation. Make the treasury of divine mercy open to all.”
7th day: according to our wishes and also, of course, what we have been asked, we pray for adjustment, for improvement, for multiplication, so that everyone has and feels the kind Saint Anthony, always ready to intercede for the devotees in the their difficulties.
8th day: we pray, with the hope, that everything should be light, asking for the blessing of knowing how to always be the good part in people’s lives. “My glorious Saint Anthony, on a dark road, I walk. I will find my enemies: if they have a mouth, they will not speak to me; if they have ropes, they won’t tie me down. The arms of my enemies, for me, will be weak. The hearts of my enemies, to me, will be soft. The feet of my enemies will not follow me so that I may have the support of the habit of my glorious Saint Anthony. So be it”.
9th day: through the creation of the blessing we give thanks for the trust. “Saint Anthony, comforter of the afflicted, give me patience and strength in the sufferings of life. Also give strength and comfort to those who suffer and are discouraged.”
10th day: we pray the Responso to Saint Anthony, ending with the following prayer: “Saint Anthony, restitution of lost things, make sure that I never lose the friendship of God through sin; and if by chance I lose it, may I have the power to regain it as soon as possible.”
11th day: we thank again, in a simple way, for the present day. We pray what we feel at the moment, with the awareness of our faith, which teaches and gives us life, and we end with the prayers of a Hail Mary and an Our Father.
12th day: on this day, we pray with the conviction of unity. “Mighty Saint Anthony, for whom members disconnected from the body gather to recover life, make the church, as the people of God, always walk in the union between pastors and faithful.”
13th day: we pray only. We truly believe that what we prepare with prayer is what will blossom from each of them. “Dear Saint Anthony, look down on so many needs from Heaven. Speak to God your miraculous language, so that, through the communion of saints here on Earth, we and our brothers and sisters can be supported and attended to. Amen.”
The month is June, but let’s remember that we are all called to be saints – in our own way!
